Ella (Emergency Contraceptive Tablet)
Ella is a type of emergency contraceptive pill that can help prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure, such as a broken condom. It contains ulipristal acetate, which works by delaying or preventing ovulation—the release of an egg from the ovary. Ella is most effective when taken within 120 hours (5 days) after intercourse but is more effective the sooner it's taken. It is available by prescription in many places and is not intended for regular use, but rather as a backup option. It doesn't terminate an existing pregnancy.
