Ella (brand name)
Ella is a medication primarily used as an emergency contraceptive to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. It contains the active ingredient ulipristal acetate, which works by delaying ovulation, making it less likely for fertilization to occur. Ella is most effective when taken within five days (120 hours) of unprotected intercourse. Unlike regular birth control pills, it is intended for emergency use and does not sustain ongoing contraception. It is available by prescription and should be used as soon as possible after unprotected sex for optimal effectiveness.
