Elephantiasis

Elephantiasis is a condition where parts of the body, typically limbs or genitals, become swollen and thickened due to a parasitic infection caused by filarial worms. These worms are transmitted through mosquito bites, and they block lymphatic vessels, which are responsible for draining excess fluid. As a result, fluid accumulates, leading to severe swelling and tissue enlargement. Over time, this can cause skin thickening and deformity. Elephantiasis is more common in tropical regions and can cause significant physical and social challenges if not appropriately treated.
