Electrophysiologic Study

An Electrophysiologic Study (EPS) is a medical test used to evaluate the electrical activity of the heart. During the procedure, thin wires (electrodes) are inserted into the heart through a blood vessel. These electrodes measure the heart's electrical signals, helping doctors diagnose issues like arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats). The study can also pinpoint the origin of abnormal heart rhythms and guide treatment options. It is typically performed in a specialized lab under local anesthesia, and while it may sound complex, it is a valuable tool for understanding heart health and improving patient care.
