The purpose of the EEI is to help government agencies monitor international trade, enforce export restrictions, and gather trade data. Filing EEI is typically required for shipments valued over a certain amount or subject to export controls. It’s submitted electronically through the Automated Export System (AES), ensuring compliance with export regulations and facilitating smooth cross-border transactions.
