Electromyographic Activity
Electromyographic (EMG) activity refers to the electrical signals generated by muscle fibers when they contract. When your brain sends a command to move a muscle, it produces electrical impulses that travel through nerves to the muscles, causing them to activate. EMG measures these electrical signals using sensors placed on the skin or inserted into muscles. It provides valuable information about muscle function, strength, and coordination, helping clinicians assess muscle health, diagnose conditions, or monitor responses to therapy or training. Essentially, EMG captures the electrical "language" muscles use to communicate and work.
