Electromechanical relay

An electromechanical relay is a device that uses an electric current to control the flow of electricity in a separate circuit. It works like a switch operated by a small amount of electrical energy: when the relay receives a signal, it activates a magnetic coil, which pulls a metal switch or contacts to either open or close the circuit. This allows control of high-power devices with a low-power signal, providing electrical isolation and safety. Relays are common in automation, electronics, and industrial applications where remote or automatic switching is needed.
