electrofuels
Electrofuels, also known as power-to-liquid fuels, are synthetic fuels created by using electricity—preferably renewable—to produce hydrogen through water electrolysis. This hydrogen is then combined with captured carbon dioxide to generate liquid fuels like synthetic gasoline, diesel, or jet fuel. These fuels can directly replace conventional fossil fuels in existing engines and infrastructure. Electrofuels offer a potential way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, especially when paired with clean energy sources, making transportation more sustainable without the need for new infrastructure or vehicle changes.
