ELD (Electronic Logging Device)
An Electronic Logging Device (ELD) is a technology installed in commercial vehicles to automatically record driving hours, ensuring compliance with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations. It connects to the vehicle's engine to track when the vehicle is moving, parked, or idling, and logs information such as driver activity, location, and time. This helps prevent driver fatigue by ensuring proper rest periods, improves safety, and reduces paperwork. ELDs replace manual logbooks, making record-keeping more accurate, efficient, and tamper-proof. They are mandated for most commercial drivers to promote safety and accountability on the roads.
