Elaine L. Chao

Elaine L. Chao is an American government official and public servant, known for her roles as Secretary of Transportation (2001-2009) under President George W. Bush and as Secretary of Labor (1991-1993) under President George H. W. Bush. She is the first Asian-American woman to hold a U.S. Cabinet position. Chao has an extensive background in economic and transportation policy, and also served as Chair of the U.S. Maritime Administration. She is recognized for her work promoting infrastructure, workforce development, and economic growth, and is married to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
