Ekkyklema

An ekkyklema is an ancient Greek theatrical device used to reveal scenes or characters from inside a building without showing the exterior. It’s a wheeled platform or cart that could be rolled out through the stage’s skene (building behind the stage) to display interior scenes or victims of violence, especially in tragedies. This allowed actors to remain on stage or inside the structure while dramatic moments or aftermaths were visually presented to the audience, enhancing storytelling without breaking the theatrical illusion.
