Ekbom Syndrome

Ekbom Syndrome, also known as Delusional Parasitosis, is a psychological condition where individuals firmly believe they are infested with parasites or bugs, despite no evidence. This false belief can cause significant distress, leading to behaviors like excessive scratching, cleaning, or even injuring themselves trying to remove the imagined parasites. It is often linked to underlying mental health issues such as schizophrenia, depression, or anxiety, but can also occur with medical conditions or substance use. Treatment typically involves psychiatric care, including therapy and medications, to address both the delusions and any related mental health conditions.
