Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a group of genetic disorders that affect the body's connective tissues, which provide support and structure to skin, joints, blood vessels, and organs. People with EDS often have very flexible joints, stretchy skin, and fragile tissues that may bruise or tear easily. The condition varies in severity and can cause joint dislocations, chronic pain, and other complications. EDS results from differences in how collagen, an important protein in connective tissues, is produced or structured. While it is a lifelong condition, management focuses on reducing symptoms and preventing complications.
