Egocentric vs. allocentric reference frames

Egocentric and allocentric reference frames are ways our brains perceive and orient ourselves in space. An egocentric frame centers on your own position—think of it as viewing the world from your perspective, with directions like "left" or "right" relative to you. An allocentric frame involves a map-like perspective, where the environment and objects are viewed independently of your position, using fixed points or landmarks—like saying "the tree is north of the house." Essentially, egocentric is self-centered, while allocentric is environment-centered, helping us navigate and understand space from different viewpoints.
