EF5 Tornado characteristics
An EF5 tornado is the most violent type, with wind speeds exceeding 200 miles per hour. It can cause catastrophic destruction, leveling well-built homes, destroying large structures, and razing entire neighborhoods. The winds are capable of ripping apart trees, flinging debris at high velocity, and causing severe injuries or fatalities. EF5 tornadoes are rare but highly destructive, often associated with intense supercell thunderstorms. Their powerful winds and extensive damage make them the most feared tornado category, emphasizing the importance of early warnings and safe shelters.
