Edward H. White II was an American astronaut and engineer, best known for being the first American to perform a spacewalk during the Gemini 4 mission in 1965. Born in 1930, he was also a fighter pilot and test pilot before joining NASA. White contributed significantly to human spaceflight by demonstrating extravehicular activity (EVA), which is crucial for future space exploration. Tragically, he died in the Apollo 1 accident in 1967. His pioneering efforts helped pave the way for subsequent space missions, making him a celebrated figure in the history of space exploration.
