
Edward Rydz-Śmigły
Edward Rydz-Śmigły was a Polish military leader and statesman, born in 1886. He played a key role in Poland’s independence movement during World War I and later became a high-ranking military commander. During the interwar period, he served as Poland’s Marshal and Chief of Staff, shaping its defense policies. At the outbreak of World War II, he was the Deputy Commander-in-Chief, leading Poland’s military efforts against invading forces. Following Poland’s defeat, he withdrew from politics and lived in exile. Rydz-Śmigły is remembered for his military leadership and commitment to Polish sovereignty.
