Edward Muybridge

Edward Muybridge was a pioneering photographer born in 1830, renowned for his work capturing motion. He famously conducted experiments in the 1870s to determine if a horse ever fully lifts all four hooves off the ground during a gallop. Using a series of cameras triggered by tripwires, he took rapid sequential photographs that showed the horse’s movement in detail. His work laid the foundation for motion pictures and advances in film technology. Muybridge's innovative techniques transformed the study of human and animal movement, influencing both science and the arts.
