Education Welfare Officers
Education Welfare Officers (EWOs) are professionals who work with schools, families, and local authorities to ensure students attend school regularly and receive the education they are entitled to. Their role involves supporting children and young people who may face barriers to attending school, addressing issues that affect their participation, and promoting positive attendance habits. They also collaborate with social services, mental health teams, and other agencies to support students’ overall well-being and educational success. Essentially, EWOs help create environments where every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive through consistent school attendance.
