Education system in the UK

The UK education system is divided into several stages. Children start with primary education (ages 4-11), followed by secondary education (ages 11-16), where students take exams called GCSEs. Afterward, students can pursue further education through sixth form or colleges for two years to obtain A-levels or equivalent qualifications, preparing for university. Higher education, such as universities, offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Education is managed regionally—England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland each have their own systems and curriculum standards, but all aim to provide broad, accessible education tailored to students’ needs and opportunities.
