Education land grants

Education land grants were parcels of land given by the government, often during the 19th and early 20th centuries, to support the establishment and funding of educational institutions, particularly public colleges and universities. These grants provided essential resources to help build infrastructure, acquire equipment, and promote higher education access. The most notable example is the Morrill Land-Grant Acts, which significantly expanded higher education across the U.S. by allocating federal land to states. The land was then sold or used to generate revenue, helping universities grow and serve the public interest.
