ECMO Circuit

An ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) circuit is a medical system that temporarily takes over the function of a patient's heart and lungs. Blood is drawn from the body through tubes, then passed through a machine that adds oxygen and removes carbon dioxide, mimicking normal lung function. The cleaned blood is then returned to the patient. This helps support individuals with severe heart or lung failure while they recover or await further treatment. The system consists of a pump, an oxygenator (artificial lung), and tubes connecting to the patient, functioning as an external life-support loop.
