Eciton (Army ants)
Eciton, commonly known as army ants, are highly organized, nomadic predators found in Central and South America. They live in large colonies and are renowned for their relentless foraging behavior, forming giant, aggressive columns that sweep through the forest floor to hunt insects, small animals, and other prey. Unlike many ants, they don’t build permanent nests; instead, they constantly move, leaving behind temporary bivouacs made of their bodies for shelter. Their cooperative approach and adaptive hunting strategies make them effective predators, playing a significant role in their ecosystems.
