Echinococcus multilocularis

Echinococcus multilocularis is a tiny parasitic tapeworm that infects mammals, mainly foxes, dogs, and occasionally humans. It causes alveolar echinococcosis, a serious disease where infected tissues develop tumor-like growths, primarily in the liver. Humans can become accidental hosts by ingesting eggs through contaminated food, water, or contact with infected animals. The infection can be severe and difficult to treat if not diagnosed early. Controlling the parasite involves regular deworming of pets and proper hygiene to reduce exposure to contaminated environments.
