Echinococcosis
Echinococcosis is a parasitic disease caused by tiny tapeworms of the genus Echinococcus. Humans become infected by accidentally ingesting eggs from contaminated food, water, or contact with infected animals, mainly dogs. Once inside the body, the eggs develop into cysts, usually in the liver or lungs, which can grow slowly over years. These cysts can cause symptoms like pain, swelling, or complications if they burst. Treatment often involves surgery or medication to remove or shrink the cysts. Echinococcosis prevention focuses on good hygiene, proper handling of animals, and controlling infection in livestock and pets.
