Ecbatana, known today as Hamadan in Iran, was an ancient city that served as the capital of the Median Empire around 700 BCE. Renowned for its impressive fortifications, rich history, and cultural significance, it was a strategic and prosperous center in the ancient world. Ecbatana was renowned for its grand palaces, gardens, and its distinctive circular walls topped with seven terraces. Over centuries, it remained an important city under various empires, including the Achaemenids and Parthians. Today, Hamadan preserves archaeological sites and artifacts that reveal its historical importance as a focal point of early Iranian civilization.
