EBNA-1
EBNA-1 (Epstein-Barr Nuclear Antigen 1) is a protein produced by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which is a common virus infecting many people worldwide. EBNA-1 helps the virus maintain its presence inside human cells by attaching to the cell's DNA, ensuring the virus's genetic material is replicated and passed on during cell division. This protein is also involved in activating or regulating genes to keep the virus hidden from the immune system. Because of its critical role, EBNA-1 is often targeted in diagnostic tests for EBV-related diseases and considered in therapies aimed at controlling EBV infections.
