East German military intelligence

East German military intelligence, known as the Stasi's Hauptverwaltung Aufklärung (HVA), was responsible for gathering foreign intelligence during the Cold War. It monitored NATO countries, West Germany, and Western allies to assess military capabilities and intentions. The HVA used human spies, communications interception, and secret operatives to collect information. As part of East Germany’s (GDR) security apparatus, it aimed to safeguard communist interests and counter Western influence. Its activities were highly secretive, making it a key tool in Cold War espionage, and its effectiveness contributed to East Germany's strategic security and political control within the Eastern Bloc.
