East African Orogeny
The East African Orogeny was a major geological event that occurred around 750 to 550 million years ago, involving the collision and merging of small landmasses and oceanic plates to form part of the ancient supercontinent Gondwana. This process caused intense mountain-building, crustal deformation, and volcanic activity across what is now East Africa. It played a key role in shaping the region’s geology, creating deep crustal zones and setting the stage for future continental growth. Essentially, the orogeny was a huge natural "construction project" where Earth's crust was compressed and assembled, building the foundational geology of East Africa.
