East Africa Protectorate
The East Africa Protectorate was a British colonial administration established in 1895 over what is now Kenya. It was set up to control and develop the region, primarily for economic and strategic interests, including supporting trade routes and resource extraction. The protectorate was governed by Britain but included local Africans and settlers. In 1920, it was officially renamed Kenya Colony, reflecting its evolving status. The protectorate signified Britain's indirect rule, with local leaders working under British oversight, laying the groundwork for Kenya’s future independence movement.
