Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) systems
Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) systems detect the initial, less destructive seismic waves (P-waves) from an earthquake before the more damaging waves (S-waves) arrive. These systems analyze seismic data rapidly and send alerts seconds to minutes in advance, giving people and infrastructure time to take protective actions like dropping, covering, and holding on or shutting down critical systems. EEW aims to reduce injuries, damage, and casualties by providing crucial seconds or minutes of warning once an earthquake is detected nearby.
