Earth's Equator

The Equator is an imaginary line that circles the Earth exactly halfway between the North and South Poles. It divides the planet into the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere. The Equator is about 40,075 kilometers (24,901 miles) long and has special significance because locations along it experience roughly equal day and night durations year-round. It also marks the widest part of the Earth’s surface and is important for climate, as regions near the Equator tend to have warm, tropical weather with consistent sunlight. This line helps in navigation, geography, and understanding Earth's rotation and climate patterns.
