Early Childhood Caries (ECC)
Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is a form of tooth decay that affects young children, typically under age 6. It occurs when bacteria in the mouth feed on sugars from foods and drinks, producing acids that erode the tooth enamel. This can lead to cavities, pain, and sometimes tooth loss if not treated. Factors contributing to ECC include frequent sugar consumption, prolonged bottle or breastfeeding, and poor oral hygiene. Preventing ECC involves good dental habits, limiting sugary snacks, and regular dental visits to ensure healthy development of the child's teeth.
