Eardrum

The eardrum, or tympanic membrane, is a thin, cone-shaped piece of tissue that separates the outer ear from the middle ear. It vibrates when sound waves strike it, converting these sound vibrations into mechanical movements. These vibrations are then transmitted to the tiny bones in the middle ear, helping us to perceive sound. The eardrum also acts as a barrier, protecting the middle ear from dirt, bacteria, and other debris. Its health is essential for proper hearing, and it can be affected by infections, injuries, or loud noises.
