E1 Reaction
An E1 reaction is a type of chemical process where a molecule loses a part, forming a new double bond. It happens in two steps: first, the molecule loses a leaving group, creating a positively charged spot called a carbocation. Then, a nearby hydrogen atom leaves, and a double bond forms between two carbon atoms. This reaction often occurs in substances with stable carbocations and under specific conditions, leading to the formation of alkenes. E1 reactions are common in organic chemistry and important for creating and modifying complex molecules.
