Dysthymia
Dysthymia, also known as persistent depressive disorder, is a chronic form of depression characterized by a long-lasting low mood that lasts for at least two years in adults (or one year in children and teens). Unlike major depression, the symptoms are often less severe but more persistent. People with dysthymia may experience feelings of sadness, hopelessness, low energy, and decreased motivation almost daily. It can affect daily functioning and relationships but is manageable with therapy, medication, and lifestyle changes. Recognizing and treating dysthymia is important for improving quality of life and overall mental health.
