Dutch

Dutch is a West Germanic language primarily spoken in the Netherlands and Belgium, as well as in some parts of Suriname, the Caribbean, and Indonesia. It evolved from earlier Low Franconian dialects during the medieval period and is related to English and German. Dutch features a mix of Germanic roots with influences from Latin and French. It is written using the Latin alphabet and has unique pronunciation and grammar rules. As the official language of the Netherlands and Belgium, Dutch plays a key role in education, government, and literature, and also serves as a regional language in several neighboring communities.
