Durkheim's Theory of Suicide

Durkheim's Theory of Suicide suggests that the likelihood of someone taking their own life is influenced by their social connections and the degree of social integration and regulation they experience. He identified four types: egoistic (weak social bonds lead to feelings of isolation), altruistic (excessive integration can cause loss of individual identity), anomic (disruption of social norms, often in times of change or crisis), andfatalistic (excessive regulation leads to hopelessness). Essentially, both too little and too much social regulation or connection can increase suicide risk, highlighting the importance of social balance for mental well-being.
