Duke's siege of Badajoz
Duke’s siege of Badajoz in 1812 was part of the Peninsular War during the Napoleonic conflicts. Allied forces, including British and Portuguese troops led by the Duke of Wellington, aimed to capture the fortified Spanish city from French control. After a six-week siege, heavy artillery and repeated assaults breached the city’s walls. The victory was strategic, weakening French positions in Spain, but it resulted in significant casualties. The siege demonstrated the importance of coordinated siege tactics and affected subsequent military operations in the region.
