Duke of Mayenne
The Duke of Mayenne was a French nobleman and military leader during the Wars of Religion in the late 16th century. As a Catholic supporter, he played a key role in resisting Protestant Huguenots and the influence of the ruling Bourbon family. He was the brother of King Henry III's mother and led the Catholic League’s efforts to maintain Catholic dominance in France. Although he held significant power and influence, his efforts were part of the complex religious and political conflicts that nearly tore France apart during that period.
