Duchy of Savoy

The Duchy of Savoy was a historic region in what is now northwestern Italy and southeastern France, centered around the city of Turin. It was established in the 15th century as a duchy within the Holy Roman Empire and became a significant political and military entity. Over time, it expanded through strategic marriages and treaties, eventually unifying parts of Italy and establishing the House of Savoy as a prominent ruling family. In 1861, the Duchy of Savoy played a key role in the formation of the Kingdom of Italy, with its territory forming the core of the new nation.
