Duchy of Holstein
The Duchy of Holstein was a historical region in northern Germany, primarily located along the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. It existed as a duchy from the medieval period until the early 19th century. Holstein was part of the larger Danish realm for much of its history, and it often shared governance with the adjacent duchy of Schleswig. The area was characterized by agricultural land and trade, and its political status changed over the centuries due to wars and treaties. Today, Holstein is integrated into the modern German state of Schleswig-Holstein.
