Dual-Hypothalamic Theory
The Dual-Hypothalamic Theory explains how the hypothalamus, a brain region, controls both hunger and satiety. It proposes two separate parts: one that stimulates eating (the lateral hypothalamus) and another that suppresses it (the ventromedial hypothalamus). When the hunger area is active, we feel hungry; when the satiety area is active, we feel full. Balance between these regions helps regulate energy intake. Disruption in this system can lead to issues like overeating or insufficient food intake, impacting body weight and metabolism.
