DSD (Differences in Sex Development)

Differences in Sex Development (DSD) are medical conditions involving variations in the chromosomes, gonads, or anatomy that don’t fit typical definitions of male or female bodies. These variations can occur before birth and may affect physical features such as genital appearance, hormone levels, or internal reproductive organs. DSDs are diverse, and some individuals might have atypical combinations of chromosomes (like XXY or XO). While some people with DSDs may notice differences early, others may discover them later in life. Medical management aims to support physical health, well-being, and appropriate gender identity, respecting each individual’s unique experience.
