drumlins

Drumlins are elongated, smoothly rounded hills formed by glacial activity. They consist of compacted till (unsorted glacial sediment) and are shaped as glaciers move over the landscape, carving and smoothing the terrain. Their tapering shape points in the direction the glacier advanced, and they often occur in groups, creating distinctive, hummocky terrains. Drumlins help scientists understand past ice movements and climate conditions, and are commonly found in regions once covered by ice sheets, such as parts of North America and Europe.
