Drachma
The drachma is an ancient Greek currency that was used for thousands of years, starting around the 8th century BCE. It served as a standard monetary unit for trade and commerce in Greece and later became part of the currency system during modern Greece’s history. The term is also used for Greece’s old pre-Euro currency, before adopting the Euro in 2001. Today, “drachma” mainly symbolizes Greece’s rich historical and cultural heritage rather than an active currency.
