DP (Dynamic Positioning)
Dynamic Positioning (DP) is an advanced system used on ships to keep them stationary or maintain a specific position automatically, without anchoring. It uses electronic sensors, thrusters, and computer controls to monitor the ship’s position relative to the sea floor or floating objects. When the ship drifts due to wind, currents, or waves, the system activates thrusters in precise directions to counteract these forces and hold the ship steady. DP is essential for offshore drilling, exploration, and other activities that require precise positioning in challenging conditions, ensuring safety and operational accuracy.
