Dow's Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC)
Dow's Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) is a technology that converts coal or other carbon-based materials into electricity more efficiently and cleanly. It first transforms the raw material into a synthetic gas (syngas) by heating it with limited oxygen. This syngas is then cleaned to remove pollutants and burned in a turbine to generate electricity. The waste heat from the turbine is used to produce additional power in a steam generator, increasing overall efficiency. IGCC reduces emissions compared to traditional methods, making it a more environmentally friendly approach to power generation from fossil fuels.
