Double ABC-X Model

The Double ABC-X Model explains how families respond to stress over time. It builds on the original ABC-X model by considering how families adapt after a crisis. "A" is the crisis event, "B" is the family’s resources and strengths, and "C" is their perception of the crisis. The model shows that the family's accumulated stressors and their resources and perceptions influence their final adaptation (X). Over time, ongoing challenges and how families adjust—through new strategies or changes—determine whether they thrive, adapt, or struggle after stress.
