Dornase alfa
Dornase alfa is a medication used mainly for cystic fibrosis, a genetic condition that causes thick, sticky mucus in the lungs. It is a synthetic version of an enzyme called DNAse, which breaks down the DNA molecules in the mucus. By doing this, dornase alfa helps to thin the mucus, making it easier to clear from the lungs. This can improve breathing, reduce infections, and help prevent lung damage. It is usually given as an inhaled mist using a nebulizer, allowing the medication to directly reach the respiratory pathways.
